A Pet Shop with No Price Tags — Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo

Categories:  > > > > > >

Their family, the owner says, has been called "a pet shop with no price tags."

And true to that name, what a big family it is — let me introduce them all!

First up, the crested geckos.

Only Zero-chan has a name so far, but I can't wait to see what the others will be called!🦎

Next, the leopard geckos, Asa-chan and Ume-chan,

and Ike-chan, a West African fat-tailed gecko.

They all love their cozy homes, so often all I can see is a peeking little body.

I'm so glad I managed to capture their faces nicely!🏘️

Maru-chan, a White's tree frog, is wonderfully friendly — he tried to climb onto my hand and went bonk, launching himself right at the doorway!🐸

His roommate, Waru-chan, has a slightly mischievous coloring, but he's actually calmer than Maru-chan.

There was also a little ornament friend that I first mistook for the real thing — "Wait, is he frozen?!" I panicked for a moment (ha!).

Then there's Yome-chan, another crested gecko,

and Shakure-chan, a Mikado gecko (chahoua).

Shakure-chan has the cutest little undershot jaw, but I couldn't quite capture it on camera — oh, the frustration of not being able to share just how adorable she is!

Yoko-chan, a New Caledonian giant gecko.

No, no — Yoko-san!

Best not to get on her bad side — she can be quite fearsome!⚡️

In the cage next to Yoko-san is Kogemi-chan, a hamster.🐹

"Give me my food!" she'd urge me — but she was so cute, I thought I'd snap a photo first… only to be met with quite the stern face!

Next, the degu crew.

There's still plenty more to come — are you all keeping up?

The young ones were full of energy, spinning round and round on their wheel! Before I knew it, they'd polished off all their pellets — hearty appetites and a job well done holding down the fort.🐭

By the second day, many were already eating right from my hand, and not one of them nipped — some even peeked out asking for more (ha!).

"This is the hand that brings food" — that they trust me like that is surely proof of how dearly they're loved every day!

The ones in the lower photo are the senior crew, but with their lovely coats, they're every bit as adorable as the rest. Miru-chan is a remarkable eight years old!

And last, the guinea pigs!

Their care always ends up last on the list, so they let me hear about it with a loud "Wheek!"🥺

Gin-kun is so lively that he made a break for it during cleaning, pattering about adorably.

Kin-kun and Gin-kun are foster pets, so now is the only time I'll get to meet them!

Saving the best for last — Abby-chan!

That soft, fluffy baby coat you can only enjoy right now!

Believe it or not, the photo on the left won a special prize (the "Tropical Resort" award) at the charm Koishikawa photo exhibition!🏅 She was so shy during her stay, yet here she strikes such a dignified pose.

A family so big you could open your own small-animal specialty shop!

A wide range of color variations in stock, too.

But there are no price tags here — these smiles are simply priceless!✨️

What a wonderfully fun visit it was!🏡
